We hope that you find the very comprehensive list of the 22 Towers that are available, plus Charlton and the “Touring Tower”, attractive and inviting. There has not been an Open Day in this area for over 25 years. Even Charlton were not available back then, and we have two fairly new installations listed, Hawkesbury, with their Italian cast bells, and Littleton Drew.
Open Day Route
The route has been laid out with particular attention to those who will want or need to return to Charlton during the day. We have also had to be mindful of the fact that the Badminton Horse Trials are on the same day, but towers in relatively close proximity are in the early afternoon, so theyshould not be hampered by traffic congestion.
Because of the possibility of additional attendance by participants in the World Record attempt, we will endeavour to extend the ringing time at towers, if this becomes an issue. But we know that we will have to stick to one hour only at Littleton Drew, where priority will be given to those with Day Tickets. This is due to an ongoing problem with a complainant, which we do not wish to add to.
Open Day Guidelines & Etiquette
To help the day run smoothly, please consider the following:
- Please respect your fellow Ringers – kind and courteous behaviour is expected from all participants throughout the day.
- Ringing is on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. To help everyone have an enjoyable day, please do not save places in the queue for anyone arriving later. If you wish to ring with specific people, you are welcome to let others in the queue pass in front of you.
- Please follow and respect the instructions of the Stewards at each tower – they have the final say over what ringing takes place. Everyone involved in the organisation of this Open Day is a Volunteer.
- If you wish to ring at a tower for a second time, we cannot guarantee this. However, depending on the number of participants, it may be possible once all those who are waiting to ring have done so first. No additional donation would be needed.
- Please Park considerately, and do not block driveways, narrow lanes or park on footpaths.
- Suggested minimum level of experience: Rounds and Call Changes. Please be aware that the bells will be unfamiliar, and novice ringers may find some challenging. If in doubt, please bring along an experienced ringer to supervise you whilst you ring.
We hope you have a lovely day in this beautiful part of the Wilts & Glos. And many thanks for supporting our Fundraising Event.
